The Ending or an Era and Beginning of a New One

{ Monday, August 25, 2008 }
Many photo's will follow as they arrive, but as many of you already know this weekend Erin and I got married! We would like to thank Phil, Kim, Justin, and Heather, plus our parents and everyone else that helped with everything. There was no rain during the wedding, but it down poured about 5 minutes after while everyone was on their way inside. The ending of an era came on Sunday when for the first time in 367 days I did not go out and run a mile. Following are some pictures form Phil and Kim's house and at the rehearsal. If anyone has fun pictures from the wedding please e-mail them to us at jonniej@aol.com . Thanks.

Soccer Anyone?

{ Wednesday, August 20, 2008 }
So instead of getting stuff done for the quickly approaching wedding, I decided to head back to Gull Lake and play in my high school alumni game. About 25 alumni showed up, but mostly it was the guys who had graduated with in the past 1-3 years. I mean, they are alumni, but come on... Anyway, there were 3 guys there that I had played high school soccer with, and my parents and Phil came out to watch the game. The game got off to a poor start when the alumni got scored on in the first 5 minutes, but we battled back tying the score in the 2nd half. Then came the glory! I hit a great shot (left footed even) from about 25 yards out. The game winning goal, or at least I thought. The varsity team countered about 5 minutes later with a good goal of their own. The game ended up going into OT and into PK's. I was picked to shoot one of them and decided not to volunteer the information that the last time I took a PK at Gull Lake that it was saved. But this time I got my redemption scoring my 2nd goal, helping the Alumni to the victory. Even if you count the PK as 0.5 goals, you have to round up to 1.0, so I did have 2 goals in the game no matter what "the hamburger" will say.

Phil was also nice enough to take 50 or so pictures during the game for me. If you look closely at the last picture he actually got my PK shot in mid air. I am disappointed that he didn't get my goal during the game though. But in all fairness to him, he told me he really didn't think my shot was going to get on goal, let alone go in.

Our Weekend Adventure

{ Wednesday, August 13, 2008 }
This past weekend I took Erin on a date to the Kalamazoo County Fair. Thats right, the fair. We got to eat good fair food, and even saw the beef endro. Which a llama won. We were not really sure how the rules read, but last I checked a llama was not part of the beef community. Here is a picture of that.

My "Aunt" Judy was also in town from Washington so we got to have lunch with her and catch up on what is new and exciting with her. Here is a picture of us at my parents house.

On Sunday night Curtis, Adrian, and I all went fishing. We all caught some fish, but I definetly caught the most, not that it was a competition, but if it was I totally won.

The 17 minute Quarter mile

{ Tuesday, August 5, 2008 }
So about 2 months ago Phil conned me into signing up for the Sherminator Triathlon. I know it sounded scary to me at first too, but it was only a "sprint" triathlon, which means only 500 yard swim, 10 mile bike ride, and 3.1 mile run. I mean really, how hard could that be? Well after the first 17 minutes in the water, making it back to land was amazing, if only it ended there. Phil and I were in the first wave of guys to go, so apparently that set me up well to get passed by about 150 people on the bike portion of the race. But I have been running, so I should be able to pass a bunch of them back in the run, right? WRONG! Well I passed some, but not quite as many as had passed me before. Overall it was fun, but very tiring. Phil ended up with a time around 1 hour 18 minutes, and I came in about 1 hour and 23 minutes. The 5 minute difference was mostly the swim that I did poorly, but Phil did beat me on every part of the race except the 1st transition, which I crushed him in. Here are some pictures of the events. I am sure Kim will post pictures too, but right now I think she is being a slacker!

Phil and I the night before the race trying on our swim caps

We are not sure why, but they gave us nice shirts, but they were just a little short.

This is me finishing the race.

This is the group that crushed the Sherminator. Phil, Jon, Jenny, Stacy, and Anne. We should all get together and NOT do this again!
